For this varietal identification service, our teams use recent biomolecular technologies (capillary sequencer, SSR markers). We are the only private French company offering a varietal identification service. All it takes is a plant sample to identify most grape varieties and rootstocks.
The technique involves extracting DNA, analyzing the 9 SSR markers (recommended by the OIV) using a capillary sequencer, and examining the genome (genetic profile of 9 screened regions, with the combination of these profiles unique to each variety). We cross-check our results with the international VIVC database, currently one of the most complete in the world. The only limitation applies to Vitis varieties not listed in the VIVC databases.
