Sanitation

Need to sanitize exceptional plant material?

Despite current regulations on vine propagation and the improvement of sanitary quality, in the numerous sanitary diagnostics we conduct, we find that viruses remain particularly prevalent in vineyards. Many strains show no symptoms and appear healthy, and only after analysis does their poor sanitary status become apparent. We strongly advise against propagating virus infected material, which is rightly prohibited by regulations.
When a winemaker undertakes a selection process to find an ideal plant, sometimes the chosen strain turns out to be virus-infected. This exceptional yet infected plant material can be sanitized by our teams, making its use possible for producing high-quality wines.

skills and methods

Sanitizing a strain requires a complex and unique expertise that we have mastered for over 20 years. We routinely provide this service for both winemakers and institutions seeking to preserve valuable plant material.
Sanitation is an in vitro culture technique that allows a healthy vine plant to be obtained from an infected sample. The method involves subjecting the in vitro samples to a specific temperature and then selecting the youngest tissues where the virus has not yet developed. Regenerating these tissues into a full plant produces a new individual identical to the original but virus-free.
